CEI Africa is thrilled to share that REI Cameroon has officially secured Cameroon’s first solar mini-grid license from the Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL), marking a major milestone for clean energy access in the country.
This achievement was made possible with valuable support from CEI Africa through their Technical Assistance, which enabled REI Cameroon to establish an innovative dual-entity structure, AssetCo & OpCo, paving the way for successful licensing and long-term sustainability.
The authorization allows REI Cameroon to produce and distribute solar power in off-grid communities, starting with the Voundou mini-grid pilot. This milestone reflects nearly two decades of research, piloting, and dedication to delivering sustainable energy solutions aligned with Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2030 (NDS30).
At the signing ceremony, REI Cameroon’s CEO Jude Numfor expressed gratitude to ARSEL, the Government of Cameroon, and other stakeholders including CEI Africa, for their support in achieving this first-of-its-kind milestone — and reaffirmed REI Cameroon’s commitment to power progress across rural communities in Cameroon.
