Africa GreenTec Mali

Africa GreenTec Electrification Rurale (AGT ER), a subsidiary of the German social enterprise Africa GreenTec Asset GmbH, received support from CEI Africa through both its Smart Outcomes and Results-Based Financing components—each focused on different types of investment.

Through the Smart Outcomes component, AGT deployed shea butter processing units, fruit and vegetable dryers, and ice makers across its operational mini-grid sites in Mali. These assets were offered via flexible lease-to-own and “Key Maker” models designed for rural cooperatives and SMEs. This intervention reached over 17,000 people—90% of whom were first-time users of productive-use equipment—and had a strong gender lens, with more than 9,000 women directly benefiting.

Separately, through the Results-Based Financing component, AGT is electrifying 27 rural communities via the construction and densification of solar mini-grids. The project has already verified over 1,500 new electricity connections, with a goal of 3,810. In newly electrified villages like Kabaya, residents are already experiencing improved healthcare services, enhanced livelihoods, and stronger local economies.

Together, these projects exemplify AGT’s integrated strategy to expand clean energy access and stimulate income-generating opportunities in Mali’s off-grid communities.
