Equatorial Power DRC

Equatorial Power received support from CEI Africa under both the Smart Outcomes and Results-Based Financing components to scale clean energy access and productive use in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Through the Smart Outcomes component, Equatorial Power is expanding operations on Idjwi Island by deploying a suite of productive use of energy (PUE) appliances—including milling machines, sewing machines, e-cookers, and e-mobility solutions. These assets are delivered using an impact-based, hybrid sales and lease-to-own model that supports SMEs, cooperatives, and women entrepreneurs.

In parallel, the Results-Based Financing component is supporting the construction of two new green mini-grids in the Bulungu region, targeting 3,500 verified electricity connections for households, businesses, and public institutions; the total reach is estimated at over 17,500 people.

Additionally, Equatorial Power has received technical assistance to strengthen its IT systems and monitoring infrastructure, improve internal gender policies, and obtain key certifications—including environmental impact assessment (EIA) approval and mini-grid operation licenses for the Bulungu sites.

Together, these interventions are expected to benefit more than 22,300 people, replacing kerosene, charcoal, and diesel with cleaner, more reliable energy alternatives and contributing to a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions.
