Nuru is a mini-grid developer based in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo that is advancing energy access in fragile regions of North Kivu. With support from CEI Africa’s Results-Based Financing (RBF) window, Nuru is constructing a 3.7 MW solar mini-grid system to electrify the underserved neighborhoods of Ndosho, Mugunga, and Lac Vert – areas where electricity access was previously under 3%.
The RBF grant will be disbursed upon verification of approximately 5,146 new electricity connections, extending Nuru’s total capacity to 5 MW and 120 km of distribution network. The system will serve over 40,000 people and power homes, clean water infrastructure, telecom towers, and small enterprises. This project builds on Nuru’s initial 1.3 MW Goma metrogrid and is expected to be one of the largest fully islanded mini-grid systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.
