OnePower Benin received support from CEI Africa under both the Smart Outcomes and Results-Based Financing components to expand energy access and enable productive use of electricity in underserved communities across the country.
Through the Smart Outcomes component, OnePower is deploying 35 productive use of energy (PUE) appliances—including solar-powered cold storage, agro-processing machinery, and ICT tools—across revitalized mini-grid sites. These assets are offered through a lease-to-own model supported by community engagement, technical training, and partnerships with local microfinance institutions. The initiative aims to increase SME productivity and support income generation in off-grid and peri-urban areas.
Complementing this, the Results-Based Financing component supports the delivery of 1,120 new electricity connections in the communities of Kotokpa and Aglamidjodji, expanding access to clean energy for households and small businesses. This rollout supports improved health, education, and local economic activity and contributes to OnePower’s broader plan to develop a portfolio of 68 mini-grids across Benin.
Together, these efforts are expected to benefit 2,500 people, while displacing diesel and charcoal use with renewable energy alternatives.
