Renewvia Energy Kenya, a subsidiary of Renewvia Energy Corporation (US), received CEI Africa support through both the Smart Outcomes and Results-Based Financing components to advance energy access and climate-smart livelihoods in Kenya.
Under the Results-Based Financing component, Renewvia is expanding mini-grid connections in refugee settlements in Kakuma and Kalobeyei. The initiative targets 14,000 new connections, conservatively estimated to impact over 70,000 people across households, businesses, and public institutions.
Through the Smart Outcomes component, the company is deploying solar-powered ice flake machines with integrated energy storage on Ndeda and Ringiti islands in Lake Victoria. This cold chain infrastructure supports fish preservation efforts for local communities—particularly women and small-scale fishers—under the Key Maker Model, which enables affordable and sustainable service delivery. This intervention is expected to benefit an additional 3,480 people.
Together, the combined efforts are projected to reach approximately 73,480 people, displacing diesel usage, reducing post-harvest loss, and promoting clean energy adoption in both inland and lakeside communities.
